73 - 14" Pouty Bisque Shoulder-Head Marked '3094'
I
loved the face on this doll, and was sure I'd seen it illustrated
somewhere. I found her on page 46 of Jan Foulke's book, Simon
& Halbig Dolls, The Artful Aspect ...but with a different
number...is she the same? And is she by Simon & Halbig? I
can't answer that. This head is marked only '3094' on the bottom
of the shoulder plate in the back...the front is unmarked. The
other possibility is that this is a Baehr & Proeschild 309,
size 4, and the numbers just slide together, but I really don't
think that she looks anything like the 309 face illustrated on
page 15 of the Cieslik's German Doll Encyclopedia. I guess you
will just have to like her for the way she looks, without knowing
who her maker is!
Her
bisque head is perfect...on damage of any sort. Her face is charming
I think, and very pouty! Her little closed mouth tips down on
both sides and has a dark center line that goes into the deep
corners. She has a dimple in her chin and evenly blushed cheeks
with no rubs. Her bright blue eyes are set paperweight type,
with dark lashes all around. Her brows are multi-stroke and quite
heavy, but in a light brown shade, to go with her blond hair.
She
is on a nice firm commercial cotton twill body with composition
lower arms. Her fingertips are chipped off on both hands. She
wears a lovely old silk windowpane check two-piece dress that
is starting to fracture along the lines of the plaid but still
displays very nicely. She has old cotton underwear with embroidered
cut work trim. Her feet are clad in old black cotton stockings
and black leather shoes that have been re-soled. Her wig is a
lovely mohair replacement.
This
interesting and pretty doll is priced at $895.00
